Home Decorating In The Den

The den or family room can be one of the most vexing locations to decorate in the home. This space is naturally a social center, which is not only shared by the various people in the home, but also by guests who enter and enjoy the environment. As such you have to make sure that the space accommodates everyone’s disparate needs. This can be difficult, because each person will have their own unique needs and desires for the function of the space. That is where compromise comes into your decorative designs.
First, you should focus on unifying factors. Find a few features that everyone can agree on. Most people will agree that a television, or some sort of stereo system is a good component to have in a shared room. Other entertainment items will provide the room with a purpose, and give people something to do while inhabiting it.
The major furnishings such as sofas, coffee tables, cabinets, and stands, should be arranged in such a way that they allow for easy flow, into and out of the room.
If you have a disagreement between two people as to an item that should be placed within the space, the best thing to do is try and reach a compromise where both parties will be satisfied. Often there is a conflict between children, who will want video games, movies, and other media devices, pitting them against the adults in the home who will want more beauty and perfection in the space; the compromise is often to have both elements, but to get them to resolve around one another, possibly hiding the media pieces in a cabinet or other accessory. By drilling holes in the back of the container, you can loop the wires through allowing the game system to remain hooked up, even while out of sight. Then you should try to create a schedule, where everyone gets to use the space for their hobbies, which will allow you to try and maintain peace throughout the day.
When it comes to decorative elements you want to choose pieces which are warm and soothing. You dont necessarily want to make an extreme statement in this space, rather you should try to create a relaxed atmosphere which is comfortable for anyone who enters. This is the place where you will be bringing guests, so you want to ensure that they will not be offended by anything hanging on the walls.
Good colors for a den include variations of white, earth tones, soft blues or warm greens. These colors are all soothing and tend to make people relax and feel at ease. Try to avoid red tones, as they will make the space more violent and angry. Darker colors such as blacks and deep blues will also make the room feel restrictive and depressed.
When it comes to decorating a den the key is finding a compromise that everyone can agree to and live with. As long as you are able work with the other people who use the space, and consider the needs of potential guests, it shouldn’t be a problem to develop a room which is warm and inviting for all.
